Light Up the Night Gala for Autism

On Saturday, March 30th, I attended the Teamsters Local 25 Gala benefiting Autism Speaks.

The event took place at the beautiful Boston InterContinental Hotel along the Boston Harbor. The weather was beautiful and it was a perfect night to host a charity event.

I spent most of the night meeting/greeting guest and raising awareness for Autism. April is Autism Awareness month and Tuesday, April 2nd, was World Autism Awareness Day for 2013.

I also had a chance to cross paths with a former Miss Middlesex County, Melissa H. who was helping run the event...small world!

Thank you so much to the Teamsters Local 25 for having me as a special guest and allowing me to promote such a worthy cause.

It's a great feeling knowing I am doing my part to shine blue for Autism.

Mrs. Massachusetts & Vermont America Pageant

My first time performing as Miss Cambridge 2013 was at the Mrs. Massachusetts and Mrs. Vermont America Pageant on March 17th. I had a great time being able to perform without the stress of being judged and scored. I was able to entertain the audience with my contemporary ballet piece "Firework!"

I also was able to watch the pageant and see two very worthy women win the Mrs. Massachusetts and Mrs. Vermont America crowns. Congratulations to Mrs. Massachusetts Janelle Woods, and Mrs. Vermont Hannah Fitzpatrick.  Best of luck at Mrs. America!

Today, I was a Princess

On March 16, I had the opportunity to visit my local library and host a princess party. When I arrived all of the party guest were making crowns. I guess you could say, I surprised all of them when I walked into the room. They were so happy to see a live princess, and all of their faces lit up when I entered the room.  It was an incredible feeling to know that I was able to make the young girls happy.  

The party continued, and I helped run a treasure hunt, serve the special princess berries snack, and lead the sing along. My personal favorite part was being able to sing "If you're a princess and you know it, clap your hands."

I thought it was really cute when the little princesses came up to me to show me their dresses. They then personally complimented me on my dress. However, I made sure to tell them that they were dressed in beautiful princess attire, and that I absolutely loved their outfits even more.  We practiced spinning and curtsying in our dresses, proper princess edict.

I had a wonderful afternoon with all of the princesses, and they truly made my day. I hope I can host another princess party soon!

2013 Quincy Lunar New Year Festival

On March 10th, I was invited to attend the annual Quincy Lunar New Year Festival. Thank you Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. for having me as a special guest at such a prestigious event. It feels like yesterday, I was in high school volunteering for this wonderful organization! I have volunteered many times in the past at annual August Moon Festival and Lunar New Year Festival celebrations.

Over 7,000 people attended this year's celebration, and helped ring in the year of the snake! Lunar (Chinese) New Year is a very special to me, so it was wonderful to be able to celebrate this occasion with the community.

During my conversations, I also spoke about the Miss Massachusetts America and the Miss America Organization, and promoted my platform, ADOPT: Adoption Depends on Positive Thinking.

My favorite part of the day including spending time with friends and being announced onstage as a special guest. I was surprised and honored by this gesture. QARI put on a fantastic Lunar New Year celebration, and I can't wait to attend the next one!

Fenway Men's Health Event!

Meet & Greet with Miss Boston

 On March 9th, I volunteered at the Men's Health Event benefiting Fenway Health. This gala took place at the Boston Marriott Coply Place. I had the opportunity to meet and greet guest attending this prestigious event. Randy Price, news anchor of WCVB-TV (NewsCenter 5), and Boston's Mayor Menino were celebrity guest in attendance!

Special Olympics of MA Polar Plunge (2/23/13)

Over 900 people registered to participate in the Polar Plunge

Here are some pictures from the Special Olympics of MA Polar Plunge that took place at Revere Beach on February 23, 2013. I had the opportunity to volunteer at this well known charity event. Over 900 people registered to take the plunge, and it was fun to be part of history! In the past 14 years, the Special Olympics of MA Polar Plunge has raised over $2.8 million.   My assignments for the day were to meet and greet plungers and help them get registered. Once they were registered, some of the participants entered the costume contest. I also was the celebrity judge for the costume contest. I was honored to judge such a spectacular event, and I chose "Batman Bride" as the costume contest winner!

This was a wonderful day and will definitely go in the books as a memorable appearance. I never thought I would get to witness such a large crowd of people, in swimsuits and bikinis, jump into the freezing cold waters in the middle of the winter. However, it was all for such a worthy cause. Maybe, if they made a water proof crown, I would consider jumping in too. I'll work on that!

Another highlight of the day was meeting a school teacher who took the plunge. His students sponsored him to plunge. He successfully agreed to their challenge and not only plunged, but continued to swim the backstroke in the freezing ocean waters. His students came to cheer him on, and they were very proud of all his success. I'm very glad to have met him and been a part of his plunging experience. I was honored that he wanted to take a picture with me! He is truly a great role model!

Zinga! Frozen Yogurt-Kenmore Square (2/22/13)

I had a such a wonderful time at Zinga! Frozen Yogurt - Kenmore Square. What a "cool" first appearance! Miss Boston, Morgan Berg, and I stopped by to sample different flavors and toppings (My new favorite flavor is Birthday Cake). I cannot thank Zinga! enough for being such a fantastic sponsor to the Miss Boston Organization. Morgan and I also got to help raise awareness for Autism Speaks U Boston University.  I'll be visiting Zinga! again very soon. -Carrie
